Scientific Poster From UKE and ENPICOM Receives Award at Annual Meeting Of DGHO

Dr. Donjete (Dona) Simnica, with her poster titled “Peripheral blood T cell repertoires are biased in patients with autoimmune cytopenias showing unique T cell clusters with common antigen recognition”, received an award at the annual meeting of the DGHO (Deutschen, Österreichischen und Schweizerischen Gesellschaften für Hämatologie und Medizinische Onkologie) in Vienna that took place from September 29 through October 2 earlier this year. Dona works at the department of Tumor Immunology (part of the II. Medizinische Klinik und Poliklinik) at the UKE (Universitätsklinikum Eppendorf-Hamburg) headed by Prof. Mascha Binder.

The main conclusion of this research project was based on the downstream immune repertoire sequencing analysis performed by ENPICOM: Autoimmune cytopenias (AIC) is driven by specific T cell clusters with common antigen recognition that are discernable by TCRβsequencing. Since these clusters lack specificity for individual disease categories (ITP, AIHA or other), we postulate that these signatures rather serve as surrogate markers of the autoimmune repertoire.

In the meantime, Professor Binder and her research team moved to UKH– Universitätsklinikum Halle (Saale), where she became the director Universitätsklinik und Poliklinik für Innere Medizin IV.
